Irene's Peru Trip

In November of 2006 I travelled to Peru on a Shamanic Journey organized by Nicky Scully. It was a trip of a lifetime. Peru is otherworldly. The view is breathtaking, the landscape and the people are colourful ad the weather is unpredictable, from sunshine to downpour to hail and thunderstorms to cold winds and spectacular rainbows! The elements are truly exhaulted here. Needless to say, we wore many layers and raincoats. The markets are filled with a rich array of Alpaca blankets, sweaters, hats, scarves, hangings as well as beautiful jewellery. People live simply in the remote towns and villages, and they work hard, especially the women, yet they dress in lively colour and always smile. They are all entrepreneurs, even the little children are selling finger puppets to the tourists.

We were led by a Shaman, Malku and his beautiful Brazilian wife, Evelyn. We learned about the real history of Peru, about the Inca and their reverence for Pachamama. We took part in the honouring of this feminine energy and the giving of respect for mother earth. Malku took us to places beyond the tourist routes. Though most temples were in ruins or partially destroyed, there still remained the essence of their purpose that touched and changed us. The craftsmanship of the Inca people was impeccable. They worked with nature, not against it, and all the stones fit perfectly, even though they were of different sizes.

We participated in ceremonies that included bird call, condor feathers, puma energy and snake for transformation. Even though the ceremonies carry ancient memories, they totally embrace the modern world we live in now. Our circles were about raising the vibration of consciousness and healing on a global level. They were about shining our light brighter for a better world

The most remarkable experience amongst many was Tipon, an agricultural site with many terraces and an intricate irrigation system that culminates at the Temple of the Water where we participated in a ceremony for healing. At noon, we sat in a circle sending our energy for healing and to our delightful surprise, the sun shining directly above us with blue sky, had a magnificent rainbow ring. It stayed with us until we were ready to leave. I and many others were moved to tears. I not only felt the presence of the Divine, but was touched by it.

What did I learn from this experience? I was humbled by the brilliance of our ancestors. I learned to appreciate my wonderful life, the abundance and the rich and rewarding friendships that I have been blessed with. I feel a stronger connection with my life purpose. I have a clearer sense of my strength and power and am able to see more of this in others. The challenges of altitude, health issues and physical hardships have made me appreciate and respect my body more, as well as the gift of life. Now, I realize is the time for me to bring the ease, the playfulness and the "sweetness" as Malku said, in the living of life. My goal is by my example, to show the way. This is my greatest lesson and my greatest challenge!
